SOCIETY CLUBHOUSE

Located at 4828 NE 33rd Avenue in Portland, Oregon. Our building/clubhouse was Old Fire Station #34. We purchased it from the City in 1960 for $13,500 with a mortgage which was retired with a formal mortgage-burning ceremony in 1969.

MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

8:00 PM on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the clubhouse.  The formal meeting at 8 PM is preceded by an informal Social Hour from 7 to 8 PM. A 8 PM a brief business session is followed by an informative program related to the philatelic hobby.  Several members and dealers also offer a broad selection of material for sale or trade.  Refreshments are served.  Parking is free.  Guests and visiting philatelists are always welcome at  these meetings.

ROSE CITY STAMP FAIR

Held at the clubhouse on the second Saturday of each month between 10 AM and 4 PM the OSS clubhouse becomes a bourse for up to a dozen dealers offering quality material for sale to the general public in addition to members.  Light refreshments are served in the basement kitchen - usually coffee, tea and assorted donuts.

STAMP COLLECTOR’S CORNER

Held at the clubhouse on the fourth Saturday of each month (except  in December) between 10 AM and 4 PM the OSS clubhouse become an OSS member bourse (non-professional dealer bourse) offers collectors the opportunity to trade or sell their surplus material.  Light refreshments are served in the basement kitchen - usually coffee, tea and assorted donuts..

NORTHWEST PHILATELIC  LIBRARY

Located in the OSS clubhouse, this facility contains over 4000 books, catalogs, and bound periodicals in addition to long runs of current philatelic journals.  It is open for use before regular OSS meetings and during the Rose City Stamp Fair and Stamp Collector’s Corner.  NPL members are permitted to check out materials.

ANNUAL AUCTION

Each year, auction lots of both donated and consigned philatelic items are offered for sale at this public auction.  Mail bids are accepted and have been received from nearly every state in the U.S.  Income generated from this sale is dedicated to the OSS Building Maintenance Fund. As of January 2017 this function has been suspended (maybe/maybe not permanently).

THE ALBUM PAGE

The official monthly newsletter of the OSS is mailed to all members. It regularly contains 16 pages of club news, Library additions, upcoming philatelic events in the Northwest, plus exclusive feature articles by experienced philatelists and much more of interest to the collector.

METRO STAMP SHOW

Each year OSS puts on the METRO STAMP SHOW where members and non-members may exhibit their collections.   The exhibits are judged.   Exhibitors range from beginners to experienced.  This is a good place to get started in exhibiting. Presently suspended - may be re-started in the future (2017).
